How to Install Master PDF Editor 4 on Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 16.10

This tutorial is going to show you how to install Master PDF editor 4 on Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 16.10. Master PDF editor is a complete solution for viewing, printing and editing PDF files. It’s developed by Code Industry Ltd and available for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

The latest stable version is 4.0.10, which was released on December 29th, 2016. The change log is as follows:

  • Added different types of comments.
  • Added «Measuring tools» in comments.
  • Added possibility to export/import PDF forms when exporting/importing pages.
  • Added possibility to use system fonts in PDF forms.
  • Added search function for following parameters: “Whole Words Only” and “Find Previous”.
  • Improved general text search algorithm.
  • Increased number of JavaScript supported functions, fixed issues with global functions and variables.
  • Added “Full Screen” function.
  • Increased number of settable PDF document properties (File – Properties – Initial View) Also improved possibility to display document according to these properties on opening, if Default is set in Default Layout and Zoom.
  • Fixed issues, which occurred on resaving of some PDF documents.

How to Install Master PDF Editor 4 on Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 16.10

Since master PDF editor is not available from Ubuntu software repository, so you can’t use apt-get or apt to install it. First you need to download the deb package from official website.

Open up a terminal window (CTRL+ALT+T), and download master PDF editor 4 with the following command.

64 bits


32 bits


Then use dpkg tool to install it.

sudo dpkg -i master-pdf-editor-*.deb

If there’s any dependency error, then simply run the command below to fix it.

sudo apt -f install

Once installed, master PDF editor can be started from Unity Dash or your preferred app launcher.

    • They only have the 5.x version. I require the 4.x version. Can someone help?
